Two Episcopal congregations are celebrating after receiving over £500,000 to benefit their churches and communities. St Catharine’s in Blairgowrie, Scotland, has just found out that it has been awarded £168,000 from the Lottery Community Fund while St John the Baptist, Dundee, has gained £354,338 from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Both churches aim to provide facilities which will be of use to everyone in their communities.

During the siege of Haddington by the English in 1548, a peal of bells disappeared from St Mary's Kirk. The Scots allege the bells were carried off to Durham Cathedral, but the English claim they were melted down for military ordnance.

The Rt Revd Alastair Haggart, former Bishop of Edinburgh and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church, died on Sunday 11th January aged 82. The former Primus was a well known figure in international Anglican meetings. He was elected Vice Chairman of ACC from 1981 and served until 1985. In 1988 he underwent a coronary by-pass operation but shortly afterwards took part in the 1988 Lambeth Conference of Bishops where he was Chaplain.

St Columba's Church, Gruline, Mull, Scotland had a Church roof problem. To solve the problem will cost the congregation £20,000 and a fundraising appeal had to be launched. The Church came up with an unusual fundraising idea, a tartan (distinctive check design from Scotland often made up into cloth) for St Columba of Iona.
