A new web site has been launched to encourage Anglican friendship across the Communion, with a particularly focus on Cathedrals. In addition to the fellowship it is hoped that this web site will raise the profile of Anglican Cathedrals across the globe, and thus encourage an appreciation of them. There is currently very little on the Internet to bring our Cathedrals across the globe together in this way.

Church leaders have distanced themselves from the attempt to overthrow the government in Fiji. The coup attempt, which began on 19 May, was rejected by the president of the Fijian Methodist Church, Tomasi Kanailagi, who called on members to "pray for the nation and refrain from illegal activities, which are against what Christianity stood for."

We found out about the coup almost before anyone else as our principal's brother is the prime minster's personal body guard. He rang the principal from parliament on Friday about 11 AM to tell him that there had been a coup.

The Anglican Archbishop of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia, the Most Revd Brian Davis, announced his retirement this week. He will retire as Bishop of Wellington on 1 July 1997, and his resignation as Primate of the Anglican Church on Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia takes effect from the same date.
