The appeal focuses on how children and adults suffering from disability or incurable disease in the developing world can be given the chance to live a full and active life through education, information and the effective provision of resources.

Bishops' Appeal responds to drought in Southern Africa

Bishops' Appeal has sent €20,000 to relieve the hunger currently afflicting Southern Africa. Six countries in the region - Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe - are suffering food shortages as a result of the worst drought in a decade. The World Food Programme estimates that 12.5 million people will need help until the harvest in April next year. Bishops' Appeal will continue to monitor the need through its partners, Christian Aid and Tearfund, each of whom has received €10,000.

Belfast's "Black Santa" dies
