Food shortages add to diocese's problems

The Diocese of Central Zimbabwe is planning an extensive food relief programme as the region is suffering a fourth year of major food shortages. The relief will be undertaken in conjunction with the Church’s HIV/AIDS programmes, as these programmes already have an existing support network, though resources are likely to be stretched to their limit.

Bishops call for end to Uganda violence

The Ugandan House of Bishops last week issued a statement calling for the immediate end to violence in Northern Uganda after the Most Revd Henry Orombi, the Archbishop of Uganda, led the bishops on a tour of the region to witness the situation at first hand.

The design committee planning the Africa Anglican Bishops Conference (AABC) for October, which met in Nigeria last week, has clarified that the conference is not a reaction to current crises in the Anglican Communion. African Church leaders share concerns on AIDS

Over 35 Anglican Church leaders from across Africa converge in Uganda this week for a crucial workshop on strengthening church leadership for HIV/AIDS prevention and care. Archbishop Tutu Speaks Out on Church-State Relations

Archbishop Desmond Tutu, has warned that Churches must not be the "lap-dog" of the state. Former Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town and now chairman of South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Desmond Tutu said that Churches must always reserve the right to be "in critical solidarity" with the state.
