ACC: Anglican Church leaders propose new way forward in Rwanda

Bishop David Birney arrived in Panama today to report to the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC) meeting, bringing delegates up to date on the situation of the Episcopal Church of Rwanda. Bishop Birney is the Archbishop of Canterbury's Envoy to Rwanda and has spent recent months visiting the country and its Bishops. Despite continued requests and repeated visits by Church officials to those in exile, these Bishops, fearing reprisals, have refused to respond to the request that they return to their leaderless dioceses.

UN Observer Addresses ACC-10

With his employers looking at a budget crisis in the next few days, the Anglican Observer at the United Nations used a hi-tech multi-media presentation to back his impassioned plea to support his ministry among the world's diplomats. The U.N. representative is responsible to the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Anglican Consultative Council through the Secretary General. ACC: Secretary General Issue Millennium Challenge

ACC: Anglicans to help renovate Manger Square

The Anglican Consultative Council (ACC) today passed a resolution which endorses a proposal to help create a new town plan for Bethlehem's Manger Square. Anglicans were asked by the Palestinian National Authority to take part in this restoration of Bethlehem. The project will focus on reconstructing and replanning Manger Square (the birthplace of Christ) by the year 2000.

New Leadership for Anglican Consultative Council

A Tanzanian bishop who is a former Minister for Education in the Tanzanian Government is the new Chairman of the Anglican Consultative Council. The Right Reverend John Paterson, Bishop of Auckland in the Province of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia was elected ACC Vice-Chairman in a series of closely contested ballots on 14 October.

ACC: Thousands celebrate Anglican Communion in Panama

City traffic was brought to a standstill in Panama City today, 13 October, when 2,500 members of the local Anglican Church joined delegates to the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC) in a kilometre long procession through the streets to the Gimnasio Nuevo sports hall. The procession was accompanied by police and youth bands and the 27 parishes all carried banners to mark their participation. Once inside the hall, they joined together in a three hour service of witness in a variety of languages typical of the international nature of the Anglican Communion.

ACC: Archbishop of Canterbury to convene Anglican Leaders in Panama

As President of the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC), the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd and Rt Hon George L Carey, will call together Anglicans from around the world, laity and clergy, people from all walks of life, to discuss the work, worship and witness of the Anglican Communion around the world. The Archbishop of Canterbury will preach a sermon at a major Diocesan Mass on Sunday October 13 at 9am. The actual ACC meeting runs from October 10 through to October 20.
