Media/Press Application Form for Lambeth Conference Now Available

The Lambeth Conference, will be held in Canterbury, England from 20 July to 4 August, 2008. The application form is now available for those seeking media accreditation. It is our understanding that there will be limited accommodation available through the University of Kent. There will be a professionally maintained press centre on the campus.

At the request of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Professor Gerald West (University KwaZulu-Natal, Southern Africa) has convened an international group to prepare Bible studies for the Lambeth Conference. Members of the group came from DR Congo, USA, UK, Tanzania, and India.

Launch of Lambeth Conference 2008

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams today launched the official programme for Lambeth Conference 2008 Equipping Bishops for Mission at Lambeth Palace. Joining Dr Williams on the panel were Archbishop Ellison Pogo (Archbishop of Melanesia and Chairman of the Design Group) and Archbishop Ian Ernest (Archbishop of the Province of the Indian Ocean).

Lambeth Conference Funding Opportunities Announced

With less than one year to go to the Lambeth Conference 2008, the Conference Office is set to invite further contributions for its ongoing bursary programme. The bursaries enable bishops and bishops’ spouses to attend the Lambeth Conference, as well as helping fund those attending who will help ensure the smooth running of both the Lambeth Conference and the Spouses Conference when it meets in Canterbury next July.

Decision-makers met last week to continue their planning for progress plans for the Lambeth Conference 2008. The conference 'Design Group', appointed by Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, spent five days from April 16 to 20 working on looking the conference structures, purposes, issues and programme. Australian Anglican appointed as Lambeth Conference 2008 manager

Sue Parks is to become the Lambeth Conference 2008 manager. Currently Director of SPCK Worldwide (the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge), she is to work with the Lambeth Design Group and have overall responsibility for the conference's planning and organisation. The Design Group is chaired by the Most Revd Sir Ellison Pogo, the Archbishop of Melanesia.
