Archbishop Ian Ernest Installed New Primate for the Indian Ocean

In a colourful ceremony shown live on national television, the Most Revd Gerald James Ian Ernest, was installed as 5th Archbishop of the Indian Ocean, in the presence of an overflow international, ecumenical and interfaith congregation. The service took place on Sunday, 19 February in the historic Cathedral of St James, Port Louis, Mauritius. Portions of the service were in English, French, Creole and Ny Baiboly

Christmas Joy of Reading Braille

The Canterbury Educational Center in the Diocese of Antsiranana has a new section for blind people. It has been stocked with Braille books sent by the Torch Trust, Leicester, England. The Torch Trust produces Christian literature in formats that blind and partially sighted people can read, promotes Christian fellowship with and among blind and partially sighted people

Political situation in Madagascar

On 16 December 2001 a presidential election took place in Madagascar. The FFKM - an equivalent of the National Council of Christian Churches - have long been working to ensure free and fair elections in Madagascar. The national Committee meeting of 1999 has firmly resolved that the Church must participate in the observation of elections. Many events have transpired that cause concern and possibly threaten the democracy and human rights of the country.

Seychelles Celebrate

The origins of the Anglican Diocese of the Seychelles go back nearly 200 years to the time that missionary chaplains first arrived in the islands. However it was not until April 1973 that a Diocese was established, and George Cardell Briggs from Lindi in Tanzania was installed as the first Bishop of Seychelles.

Madagascar cyclones

The cyclones and extreme weather that devastated so much of Mozambique earlier this year also affected Madagascar very badly. Archbishop Remi reported damage to St Lawrence School in Antananarivo. Another cyclone struck in April and caused extensive damage to church property in the Diocese of Antsiranana.
