In the 29th Extraordinary Synod held in Holy Trinity Cathedral, Montevideo, on December 9, 2011, an ample majority elected the Venerable Dr. Michael Pollesel as Bishop Coadjutor. Pollesel is the recent past General Secretary of the Anglican Church of Canada, has functioned as secretary to the Metropolitan Council for Cuba, and has been a frequent visitor to the diocese. Bishop Peter Bartlett of Paraguay was the supervisor of the election for the Province. All candidates standing for election had to subscribe to the 1998 Lambeth resolution I.10 on human sexuality as a basis for eligibility.

If the Provincial Executive and House of Bishops of the Southern Cone approve the election at their meeting in Montevideo in May, Pollesel will succeed Bishop Miguel Tamayo, serving in Uruguay since May 1998 as its second Bishop. Tamayo also served as Interim Bishop of Cuba for an extended period from January 2004 until November 2010 and was a member of the design committee for the Lambeth Conference 2008. He is a recipient of the Saint Augustine of Canterbury medal.

Uruguay Elije Obispo Coadjutor (sin acentos)

Dentro del Sinodo extraordinario XXIX, reunido en la Catedral de la Santisima Trinidad en Montevideo el 9 de diciembre del 2011, el Venerable Dr. Michael Pollesel fue elegido Obispo Coadjutor por una amplia mayoria. Hasta recien Pollesel era Secretario General de la Iglesia Anglicana de Canada, ha trabajado como secretario del Consejo Metropolitano para Cuba, y ha sido un visitante frecuente a la diócesis. El Obispo Peter Bartlett de Paraguay era veedor de la eleccion para la provincia. Todos los candidatos para el cargo tenian que suscribir a la resolucion I.10 de Lambeth 1998 sobre la sexualidad humana para ser considerado en la eleccion.

Si el Ejecutivo Provincial y la camara de los obispos del Cono Sur apruebe la eleccion en su proxima reunion en Montevideo en mayo, Pollesel sucedera al obispo Miguel Tamayo, habiendo servido en Uruguay desde mayo de 1998 como su segundo obispo. Tambien, Tamayo fue obispo interino en Cuba por muchos anos comenzando en enero de 2002 hasta noviembre del 2010 y fue miembro del comite organizador para la conferencia de Lambeth 2008. El ha recibido la medalla de San Agustin de Canterbury.
