The Diocese of Hyderabad has launched an appeal for funds to help its local flood-stricken community, and the ACT Alliance has issued an appeal for Pakistan – hit by severe flooding for the second time in just two years.
Over 5.4 million people have been affected by the floods that have hit Sindh province, southern Punjab and north-eastern Balochistan. Already 248 people have died, and communities that had barely recovered from the devastating floods of last year have seen their homes and livelihoods destroyed a second time.
The Diocese of Hyderabad which has been badly affected has launched an appeal to collect 4,378,000 Pak Rupees (£ 31,784.94 – US$49,925.85) to help 1000 families in Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Tando Allayar, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Khipro, Kunri, Nawabshah with food and health and hygiene kids.
And ACT Alliance, which brings together churches and faith-based organisations involved in relief work, has launched an appeal for $1,723,229 to provide shelter and household supplies to families in the south of the province. More than 200,000 people are living in camps, there are food shortages, and there has been an increase in water-borne diseases, with a risk of epidemics.
