Nuclear weapons and the peace of the world: A Message from the Bishop of Kyushu, Japan

[ACNS source: Nippon Sei Ko Kai] The Bishop of Kyushu in Japan invites all Anglicans to commemorate in prayer the victims of nuclear weapons, and pray for the peace of the world.

An Atomic bomb exploded over Nagasaki on 9 August 1945 at 11:02am . Innumerable people were killed and severely injured and many are still suffering from the after effects of it, both physically and psychologically. The Rt Revd Gabriel S Igarashi, the Bishop of Kyushu, invites all Anglicans to join in the Memorial Service to be held in Holy Trinity Church , Nagasaki , at 10:30 on 9 August 2003. The Primate of the Nippon Sei Ko Kai, the Most Revd James Toru Uno, will preside at the service and the Bishop of Kyushu will be the preacher.

After the service, Mr Nobuo Nishimoto and Ms Miyako Johdai, two victims of the blast will give their witness.

Bishop Gabriel requests all to join in prayer:

  • For the peace of the souls of the departed, and all victims of war, past and present;
  • That our Lord may give strength to the survivors who are still suffering, especially expatriates in Japan and overseas;
  • That by the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, the peace of the world may become a reality, and that all may live their lives free from war or any kind of violence.
