HRH the Duke of Kent will open the residential wing of the International Study Centre at Canterbury Cathedral on Tuesday, 16th April 2002 at 2.15 pm in the presence of the Archbishop of Canterbury and 34 other Archbishops from around the world. The Lord Lieutenant of Kent, Mr Allan Willettt, and the Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Councillor Fred Whitemore, will also be present. The Duke will be invited to open the building by the Dean of Canterbury, the Very Revd Robert Willis, and the Cathedral Choristers will sing before and after the unveiling of the stone that will record the event.
Other guests will include: Sir William Whitfield (the architect of the International Study Centre); local Councillors; the Vice Chancellor of the University of Kent and the Principal of Canterbury Christchurch University College; the former Dean of Canterbury (the Very Revd Dr John Simpson); and the former Governor of the Bank of England (Lord Kingsdown).
Members of the Press are invited to join the ceremony. Because of security for the Primates’ Meeting, all representatives will be required to show an official Press Pass.
