on Transforming Church, Liberating Structures for Ministry
On Thursday 28 February the Rev Canon Dr Robin Greenwood, Ministry Officer for the Church in Wales, launched a new book entitled Transforming Church, Liberating Structures for Ministry. The 160-page volume is published by SPCK and is priced at £9.99.
Where many church congregations are getting smaller and other issues such as shortage of clergy and money are pressing, the easy option might be to find a scapegoat. However, in this book, Robin Greenwood emphasises that we should instead be asking, "What is there which is hopeful and fully alive, speaking of the liberating power of God? What can we offer to people and society who are searching for meaning in daily work and relationships?"
In his foreword to the volume, the Most Revd Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Wales says:
"Robin Greenwood is not proposing a panacea for the supposed ills of the Christian Church; his aim is to shift us from both passivity and glib problem-solving to an honest examination of why the reality of the Church matters at all. He is clear that most would-be global solutions are at best patronising, at worst schemes that just reinforce unreality. And he is also clear that it is only as a whole group of people who call themselves Christian come to own and give voice to a shared sense of what, as Church, they most deeply want that anything like renewal will come."
Robin has already written widely on ministry issues has over thirty years' experience as a practical theologian. As well as being Ministry Officer for the Church in Wales, he is also director of the Edward King Institute for Ministry Development. His previous books include Transforming Priesthood, Practising Community and The Ministry Team Handbook. He is married to Clare and they have three adult children.
