All African Anglican Conference on HIV/AIDS:

Anglican Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane will report to his fellow archbishops of Africa (good visuals with all the purple shirts) and to the diplomatic corps on the outcome of the ALL AFRICAN ANGLICAN CONFERENCE ON HIV/AIDS, which happened at Boksburg this week. He will also challenge the international community to respond to the outcomes.

The breakfast is being hosted by UN AIDS.

Background:

Archbishop Ndungane was earlier this year charged by his fellow archbishops worldwide to develop and lead a programme, focusing specifically on Africa, with the objective of creating a generation without HIV/AIDS. With more than 73 million Anglicans worldwide, the communion is particularly well placed to form synergistic partnerships with governments, NGOs , the donor community, business, other Christian denominations and faiths to play an effective role.

The initiative to find an African solution to the pandemic attracted international support at the conference which was attended by 130 delegates representing 34 countries and a broad spectrum of players ranging from African clerics, senior representatives from the global Anglican Communion (including Canterbury) to pharmaceutical manufacturers, people living with HIV/AIDS, the donor community and other stakeholders.

UN AIDS was a key player.
