Dear Canon,
Disaster IN Ghana:
Emergency Request for Financial Assistance
Greetings in Christ's name!
This is to let you know that Ghana is currently in a state of national mourning following a tragic incident at a football match in Accra.
The match took place at the national sports stadium, Accra last Wednesday, May 9, 2001. It was marred by the unruly behaviour of some supporters of the two teams, leading to a stampede, which caused the death of some 126-130 spectators. Several people suffered injuries and are on admission in hospitals.
In the light of the foregoing, I shall be grateful if you will send us financial assistance to purchase drugs and other needful items to support the injured victims, and to provide some help for relatives of the deceased.
I am sending some information and pictures from the national media on the tragic incident.
I trust we can count on your help for some funding to enable the Church to bring some relief and comfort to alleviate the suffering of the victims.
With the warmest good wishes, Easter joy and prayers, I remain,
Yours sincerely,
+ Robert Okine
