Statement from the Secretary General of the Anglican Communion

The faithful of the Anglican Communion are deeply shocked and saddened by the terrorist attack on the Christian worshippers at St Dominic's Church in Bahawalpur on Sunday 28 October 2001, which resulted in 15 dead, including the Revd Emmanuel Alladita the priest of the Church of Pakistan congregation. Anglicans unite in sending our expressions of prayerful sympathy to the families and friends of the victims and to the Christian Community in Pakistan at this time, and commend the departed to the love and peace of God.

We pray that Christians in Pakistan will find in their faith a source of strength and comfort, and that all people of good will may strengthen their resolve to seek peace and respect among all peoples.

We join with the international community in urging the President of Pakistan to ensure that the perpetrators of this crime are found and brought to justice and further urge the strengthening of all measures to guarantee the security of Christians and other minorities in the country, as is upheld by the constitution.
