Anglican Communion Office Director of Communications, Canon James M Rosenthal, has published a guide recently that is aimed specifically at Episcopalians from North America who want to ensure that a visit to England is the best experience it can be. "England My England" is essential reading for Episcopalians in this Millennium year.
Jim Rosenthal, a United States citizen originally from Chicago, has lived and worked in England for the last ten years. He brings together his experiences as an American adapting to the English way of life, and passes on many invaluable hints and tips that should prove extremely helpful for his fellow countrymen travelling in the United Kingdom, and may even spare a few blushes.
"I love England. I love America," says Jim Rosenthal. "I've tried to produce a guide that is easy and entertaining to read. It is a very personal view of my experiences in England, but I hope people will find it helpful and humorous. And perhaps just a little bit controversial."
As well as containing much useful information on the usual problems and uncertainties that travel to a different country involves, "England My England" contains a wealth of material for the Episcopalian pilgrim. Important cathedrals in London and elsewhere are described and recommended, and there is special attention paid to Canterbury, seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury and cradle of Anglicanism.
The guide book contains many colour photographs that reflect the travels and experiences of the author. There are also addresses and telephone numbers for cathedrals, shops, restaurants and other places of interests that have been carefully and prayerfully selected.
"There is no better place in the world to visit if you are an Episcopalian," Jim Rosenthal says of England. "I hope people will be able to read the book and jot down the places they want to visit. Many arrive on these shores ill-equipped for what they might encounter - I hope this book will make their visit more pleasurable, more rewarding."
Although the guide book is not an official publication of the Anglican Communion Office, proceeds from the sale of the book will be used to support the ongoing communications work of the Anglican Communion. Priced at a modest $9/£5 per copy, post paid, copies of "England My England" can be ordered as follows:
