Press Statement by the Archbishop of Capetown Njongonkulu Ndungane
Parliament’s public accounts committee deserves the highest praise and the nation’s gratitude for the seriousness with which it has approached the controversial arms deal issue. It is what transparent government is all about.
However, while millions of South Africans are relieved that the committee has called for an unprecedented multi-agency forensic investigation, I reiterate my call for a judicial inquiry into the feasibility of the deal.
It would seem to me that, that as country at peace and with not apparent enemies on the horizon, that we would want to direct our limited resources to addressing the greatest legacy of apartheid - poverty and inequality.
