Three bishops consecrated in India

Three bishops were consecrated on the same day for the first time in the 30 year history of the Church of North India (CNI). The consecration was carried out by a host of bishops, led by the Most Revd Vinod Peter, Moderator of CNI.

The three bishops are the Rt Revd Dr Dhirendra Kumar Sahu of the Diocese of Eastern Himalayas, the Rt Revd Christ Kiron Das, Diocese of Sambalpur, and the Rt Revd Banchha Nidhi Nayak, Diocese of Phulbani. The service was held in the Cathedral Church of the Redemption, New Delhi.

Representatives of the three dioceses attended the service, along with the Delhi diocesan presbyters and members. The Most Revd Vinod Peter delivered the sermon, a powerful and challenging message on the theme of the prophetic ministry of the church.

Bishop John Alfred Gonsalves, who celebrated his 75th birthday along with the consecrations, conducted the pre-consecration retreat for the three bishops. Bishop Gonsalves is the former Bishop of Bhopal and Chotanagpur dioceses.
