The Anglican Church in three dioceses has been on the alert after bushfires across New South Wales last week. Archbishop Harry Goodhew, Metropolitan of NSW, has reactivated his bushfire relief disaster fund.
"We have all been shocked by the speed and intensity of the bushfires, not only ringing Sydney but ravaging all the rest of the state," said the Archbishop. "It is imperative that the local churches, in areas affected by bushfires, are in a position to give immediate and substantial help to families and individuals in crises. All signs are that the bushfires this week might only be the start of a terrible summer of fires and it would be tremendous to be in position to give assistance promptly and effectively."
