Dean of St Davids Cathedral elected as new Bishop of St Davids, Wales

The man in charge of one of the country's best loved landmarks and the cradle of Christianity in Wales was elected as the new Bishop of St Davids.

The Dean of St Davids Cathedral, the Very Reverend John Wyn Evans, was elected as the 128th bishop of the diocese by the Electoral College of the Church in Wales, at a "lock in " meeting at the cathedral.

Funeral of the Bishop of Bangor

The funeral of the Rt Rev Anthony Crockett will take place at Bangor Cathedral on Monday, July 7.

There will be a Requiem Mass at 10.30am followed by the funeral service at 2pm. The Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, will preside at the Mass and officiate at the funeral, assisted by other clergy.

Church votes against Women Bishops Bill

A Bill to ordain women as bishops was narrowly defeated by members of the Church in Wales today.

The Bill failed to get the necessary two-thirds majority in one of the three “houses” of the Governing Body which is meeting at the University of Wales, Lampeter. While it was unanimously supported by the House of Bishops and passed by the House of Laity, it was three votes short of the majority in the House of Clergy.

A tiny church powered by the sun, blessed by the Archbishop of Wales

Wales’ first solar panelled church, St Joseph's Church in Cwmaman, Aberdare, will be officially opened by Dr Barry Morgan on Monday. It was fitted with 30 solar panels as part of £750,000 grant-funded refurbishment programme late last year and they have proved so efficient the church is planning to sell its excess electricity to the national grid.

What are those values? Memorial fund set up for family of Father Paul Bennett

Parishes across the country are pledging collections for the family of murdered vicar Father Paul Bennett. They will also be praying for the bereaved family as they prepare for Father Paul’s funeral on Tuesday. The money collected during services in churches over the next few weeks will be given to Father Paul’s widow, Georgina.

More than 300 people braved the bitter cold this morning to attend the first service held in St Fagan's Church, Trecynon, since the murder of its priest, Father Paul Bennett.
