A new truce was signed between the Government of Uganda and the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebel group on Saturday 14 April, renewing hope in the efforts to end the 20–year insurgency in northern Uganda.
Uganda’s Internal Affairs Minister Ruhakana Rugunda and LRA leader Joseph Kony met at Ri–Kwangba on the border between Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and renewed the cease-fire, which had expired in February.

Statement by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda
On 15th March 2006, I and all the people of Uganda woke up to read in The New Vision that Christopher Ssenyonjo, the second Bishop of West Buganda Diocese, had a new 'Archbishop called Howard' in America and had formed a new denomination called the Charismatic Church of Uganda, and had consecrated a bishop.
I regret that Ssenyonjo did not have the courtesy to contact me personally about his decision to abandon the Church of Uganda and seek a new Archbishop. Our church canons (church laws) provide for a Bishop to relinquish the exercise of ordained ministry when he affiliates with another religious body not in communion with the Church of Uganda. When, however, a Bishop does not do that, our canons stipulate that he has abandoned the Church of Uganda.

A message from Religious Leaders to all Ugandans on the 2006 General Elections
Fellow Ugandans,
We bring you greetings of love from the Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC).
We extend to you our best wishes on this occasion as we prepare to go to the polls on 23 February 2006, 28th February 2006, 6th March 2006 and 9th March 2006 to cast our votes for candidates of our choice that are contesting for various elective positions. This is an important civic duty that must be cherished by all Ugandans and all people of goodwill. The Constitution of Uganda 1995 underscores the need for free, regular and fair elections. In our view, an election is free and fair if it is conducted substantially in conformity with the relevant laws and regulations.

The event which is coming to us is a great reminder of Gods divine love to the world.
All over the world excitement has seized people because the good news has hit them. Some are excited because they will buy new things and give gifts to loved ones, but others are equally excited because they are going to make money by selling. Whatever the reason for celebrating Christmas, do know that God gave us His Son Jesus Christ and it is worth remembering.
