The Southern Cone's Provincial Executive Council met in Chile from May 16-18.
The new Primate, Héctor "Tito" Zavala, welcomed delegates to Santiago for this year's first of two regular meetings. The key concern was Uruguay's petition to seek another jurisdiction after last year's Provincial Synod, given the Province's trajectory contrary to the ordination of women to the presbyterate and the denial of local option.

To my dear brothers and sisters in Christ in the Southern Cone:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the One Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
I am enroute back to Buenos Aires having, as you are well aware, been meeting in Dar es Salaam with the other Primates of the Anglican Communion. The meeting has resulted in a great deal of attention. I thought it might be helpful to share some of my thoughts with you.

It offers valuable tools to the Communion with which our serious problems can be addressed regarding the authority of the Scripture, order in the Church and the crisis over human sexuality that two provinces of the Communion have created by taking "rebellious and unilateral actions".

The Diocese of Northern Argentina of the Province of the Southern Cone is to elect a new bishop after the retirement of the current incumbent after 30 years of service.
The election of the new suffragan bishop will take place on 3 June. Six candidates have been chosen from among the three major tribal groups living in the Formosa region. Four come from the Wichi peoples, one from the Toba, and another from Chorote. The new Bishop is to replace Mario Marino, himself Wichi.
The electorate is made up of 40 clergy and 40 laity, with the vote happening at Ingeniero Juarez, central to the Anglican Church's evangelism, translation, health and education programmes for more than a century. There are seventy churches in the area.
The election process will be supervised by a committee from Paraguay headed by the Rt Revd Andres Rodriguez. The new bishop will serve under the diocesan bishop, the Rt Revd Humberto Axt. The Church of the Province of the Southern Cone requests your prayers from the Communion.
