Archbishop Desmond Tutu accepted the Chartered Institute of Public Relations' President's Medal on 12 June to mark his outstanding, lifelong commitment to working for democracy through open and honest communications. [Washington - 7 June 2005] In a sermon to leaders and representatives from over 40 religious organisations, including every major faith group, Anglican Archbishop, Njongonkulu Ndungane said that he believes public opinion against poverty "is growing like never before." He was invited to speak at Washington National Cathedral in the USA by the Interfaith Convocation on Monday evening. The event was hosted by anti-hunger organisations: Bread for the World, Call to Renewal, America's Second Harvest and Mazon.

The Archbishop of Cape Town, the Most Revd Njongonkulu Ndungane gave the annual Martin Luther King Jr. lecture at Duke Divinity School in North Carolina, USA yesterday [Thursday April 7]. Echoing King's famous "I have a dream" speech the Archbishop spoke about his own dream of "a world with a human face". This in contrast to the present one, rife with a "new global apartheid", where millions of people are still trapped in an ongoing spiral of poverty.

The Church of the Province of Southern Africa or CPSA is to hold a planning meeting from Monday 14 March evening until Thursday 17 March in Kempton Park, Johannesburg. This meeting was called in response to a decision by Archbishop Ndungane and a representative body of clergy and laity that there is a need for the CPSA to rethink its current modus operandi if it wants to make a tangible difference in the world in which it exists.

Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town, Njongonkulu Ndungane, has spent this week visiting Alma College, Michigan, in the USA as part of a two-month sabbatical. He has given two public lectures. The first, on Wednesday night, was a reflection on those influences in his life, which have led him to his present commitments. He spoke about his life under apartheid, his imprisonment on Robben Island and his passionate commitment to the creation of a new South Africa.

The Most Revd Desmond Tutu, Archbishop Emeritus of Cape Town, attended a special service to celebrate the 70th birthday of Cape Town's oldest Anglican Church yesterday. Langa's St Cyprian's Church has a rich history of survival through the adversity of apartheid's Group Areas Act.
The church is older than the building itself. It was established in 1934. St Cyprian's Langa was forcibly removed in the 60s from Ndabeni in the city bowl. The church became a powerful symbol of unity for the people of Cape Town's oldest township.
