A cyclone named "Aila" hit west Bengal, flooding villages and forcing people to leave their homes. It was about 131 Km (80 Miles) south of Sagar Island, the world biggest riverine delta and has now hit Kolkata, Burdwan and Midnapore District. Situation is grave and countless people have lost their lives.

Empowering women to combat human trafficking: meeting challenges and creating change

“I walked out of G.B Road with my own feet and from the world of darkness into a world of light and freedom…”, said Pooja, a survivor of trafficking, the heinest crime against women, as the Council for the World Mission joined hands with Church of North India to celebrate womanhood and salute the survivors of human trafficking and violence against women on the International Women’s Day in a grand manner on 8th March, 2009 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. Pooja was joined by several other survivors, who are now human rights activists, in sharing their positive stories on the fight against human trafficking.

Diocesan Missionary Movement Programe Launched in Sambalpur

The 12th day of June 2007 marked a glorious day not only in the life of Sambalpur Diocese but also in the life of the Church of North India as a whole as a Pilot Outreach Project of Church of North India, the Diocesan Missionary Movement was launched at Bolangir by Mr. P. K. Zachariah, the Honorary Director for Mission and Evangelism in Church of North India Synod. Eight evangelists were commissioned by the Rt Revd Dr. C. K. Das, Bishop of Sambalpur Diocese, CNI to work for the coming Reign of God and care for His creation. New bicycles were given away to each evangelist to facilitate their work in four mission fields such Bolangir, Sambalpur, Nuapara and Kalahandi.

Christians and Muslims came together in large numbers in the end of April, at Ram Lila Grounds in Delhi and demanded SC status for Dalit Christians and Dalit Muslims and delinking of religion in granting SC status. The rally was jointly organised by the All India United Muslim Morcha, Dalit Muslim Liberation Movement and the National Coordination Committee for Dalit Christians.

Church of India celebrates 36th Anniversary

CNI Re-commits in being United in Witness and Service and re-launches the official Synod website

As the Church of North India celebrated its 36 years of formation, the different Dioceses, congregations, institutions and organisations of CNI celebrated with vigour the essence of CNI, of being in unity as a form of expression and as an act both in witness and service.

Celebrating this Unity which took place on 29th November 1970 at All Saints Cathedral, Nagpur, a Eucharist Service was held at the Synod headquarters of Church of North India in New Delhi on 29th November 2006 where the staffs and ecumenical friends from other Churches and organisations partook in the bread and wine symbolising the body and blood of Jesus Christ which was broken and  shed for the unity and integration of the whole creation.
