Church in solidarity with vicitms of flooding disaster in SE Brazil

As you all can see in the news, unusually heavy rain has been falling in Southeastern Brazil for days. The mountains in the countryside of Rio de Janeiro State have been affected by the worst rainstorms in their history. In cities such as Teresópolis, Petrópolis and Nova Friburgo, hundreds of people have instantly died due to mudslides that caused entire hills to collapse. It is by far considered the worst catastrophe in Brazilian history.

Back to Church Sunday promotes new and relational evangelism opportunities for IEAB

For the first time, the Igreja Episcopal Anglicana do Brasil took part in a worldwide initiative called “Back to Church Sunday.” This project, which started in the Church of England Manchester Diocese, now challenges several church bodies around the world with the simple proposal to invite people who don’t attend any church to visit a church community on a given sunday.

Which path will we walk?

These days I wonder which path we will walk. At the last meeting of Anglican primates, in Tanzania, 12 primates besides me were participating at the gathering for the first time. It was an experience of patience and hope: patience, because nothing happens when we want it to and, hope, because the new primates, including one woman, indicated the possibility of taking new paths.

Document recognizing mutually the administration of the sacrament of Baptism

In a very moving celebration at the Mosteiro de São Bento, São Paulo, Brazil, the Roman Catholic Church, The Anglican Episcopal Church of Brazil, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brazil, the Presbiterian United Church and the Sirian Orthodox Church signed a document recognizing mutually the administration of the sacrament of Baptism

This agreement was a result of many years of dialogue and advance of a more closer relashionship between these Churches trough the National Council of Christian Churches (CONIC).

Mission: Brazilian Diocese of Recife begins new chapter, installs fourth bishop

The Diocese of Recife in Brazil celebrated the start of a new chapter in its complicated life with the installation on October 11 of its fourth bishop, the Rt. Rev. Sebastiao Armando Gameleira Soares. The newly elected primate of Brazil, the Most Rev. Mauricio Andrade, presided over the investiture, which was held in the auditorium of a university in the city and attended by 400 people, including ecumenical guests and leaders of the liberation theology movement in Brazil.

Strengthening the Church to serve God's World

Inspired by this theme, and by the motto 'Worship, Service, and Commitment,' delegates from dioceses and districts of the Episcopal Anglican Church of Brazil gathered in Curitiba from 26th to 30th of July for the thirtieth General Synod.

The Synod is the maximum instance of the IEAB, which meets every three years. It is composed by the Bishops Chamber, and Laity and Clergy Chamber, each one adopting their own chairmanship and internal procedures. The chambers work together, except in cases determined by the Canon Law, or by request of one of the Chambers.
