CAPA holds workshop to develop five-year strategic plan

The CAPA HIV/AIDS TB & Malaria Programme held a very successful workshop co-ordinated by the CAPA Team and CORAT Africa from August 28 to 30.

The three-day workshop was held at the ACK Guest House in Nairobi, Kenya. The aim of the workshop was to develop a five-year strategic plan for the programme for 2006 to 2010.

The participants were drawn from different parts of the CAPA Provinces and other collaborating bodies. In attendance was His Grace the Archbishop of Kenya, the Most Rev. Benjamin M Nzimbi, who is also the acting CAPA General Secretary. He officially opened the workshop on Monday 28th August.

CAPA Appoints Coordinator for HIVAIDS, TB and Malaria Programme

A New Member Joins the CAPA Family

Mr. Emmanuel Olatunji has joined us as the Coordinator for HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria Programme.

Emmanuel was until recently the National HIV/AIDS Programme Coordinator for the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) in the HEALTH/HIV/AIDS Department.

CAPA Seek New General Secretary

The Council of Anglican Provinces of Africa is advertising for a new General Secretary, to be based in its office in Nairobi, Kenya.

Details of the advertisement follow:

POSITION: CAPA GENERAL SECRETARY
LOCATION: NAIROBI-KENYA

Qualifications
1. Be ordained African in the Anglican Orders
2. Have sound theological background preferably a Master's in Theology
3. Have 10 or more years experience in the administration of the affairs of the Anglican Church
4. Be of high integrity
5. Be experienced in international church affairs and ability to relate well to different cultures and denominations
6. Between the ages of 35-60 years
7. Experience from outside Africa added advantage.
8. Readiness to accept Church standard remuneration.
9. A working knowledge of both English and French is required
10. Be Computer Literate

The appointment is for a period of 5 years with a provision for a possible renewal if one has not reached the age of 65 years.

Responsibilities
1. Serve as Secretary to the Council and be an Ex officio member of Committees appointed by Council and attending to duties generally associated with such a position
2. Provide an interface between the Council, Member Provinces and other bodies to which the organisation is affiliated.
3. Efficiently manage the work of the secretariat and implement decisions taken by the Council.
4. Promote the interest of the Council faithfully, and in a just and transparent manner.
5. Promote a strong network of communication between Council and Member Provinces.
6. Seek funds from authorized sources for various CAPA Programs
7. Work closely with the Honorary Treasurer to ensure judicious utilization of Council's Funds on Authorized purposes.
8. Keep proper records and documents related to operations of the Council
9. Perform such other duties and exercise such power as may from time to time be assigned and vested in him by the Standing Committee and the Chair.

USPG Lent appeal 2005

USPG's Lent appeal for 2005 focusses on the life-changing work carried out by the church in Ethiopia to care for refugees from Sudan; work which is supported by USPG (United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel).

Sudanese refugees who manage to escape from the wars and horrific conflict in their homeland to refugee camps in Ethiopia face a tough life. USPG missionaries Andrew and Janice Proud and the church congregation of St Matthew's, Addis Ababa, in Ethiopia, are working to equip and care for the refugees living in the camps.

President challenges bishops on morality

President Olusegun Obasajo of Nigeria has challenged Anglican bishops meeting in Nigeria to provide courageous and godly leadership in matters of faith and moral conduct.

He said the bishops must be clear and authoritative voices on moral issues facing humanity. "The truth of the gospel must be preserved by all of us and particularly yourselves," he said.

African Bishop' Conference now opens in Lagos

The eagerly awaited Africa Anglican Bishops Conference (AABC) kicked off in Lagos on Tuesday.

Delivering the inaugural address at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Cathedral Church in Lagos, Council of Anglican Provinces of Africa (CAPA) chairman and Primate of Nigeria, the Most Rev Peter Akinola said he was thrilled to see the day.
