[Daily News Tanzania] The Anglican Diocese of Mara is hosting an African Girls Brigade (GB) conference which is discussing and laying out strategies to address challenges facing  African girls.

The week-long conference has drawn 120 participants from several African countries including Tanzania, Malawi, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ghana and  Zambia.

" We will discuss and address common challenges faced by girls and consider how to develop them with Christian values and leadership skills so that they can become responsible women contributing to the community, nation and the world,"  Tanzania GB President Mrs Catherine Ogunde said in her brief message to the conference.

Over 130 young girls from Musoma are attending the colourful conference that has also been accorded full cooperation from Musoma district authorities. "We are mainly focusing on bringing  up young girls to lord Jesus   as well as making them  become responsible  Christians and citizens,"  Malawi GB President  Mrs Everlyne Nyirenda said.

Bishop Hilkiah Omindo said the prevailing peace and tranquility in Tanzania has contributed to bring the African women delegates together in the lake zone region.

"This is a privilege because we never thought that we can host the conference within a short time of GB existence. We thank God because by sitting together we are creating friendship and sharing experience," Bishop Omindo said. Several speakers saluted GB Tanzania for hosting the conference that ends on Friday.
