The Alexandria School of Theology is pleased to announce that its 2012 Summer Institute will be held in Cairo June 25-30. This year the topic is "Muslim-Christian relations in light of the 2011 Revolution".
Egypt has the largest Christian population in the Arab world and is a key country in the region. Has the Arab Spring improved prospects facing Christians? What is likely to happen to the sectarian tension of the last generation? Speakers will include both Christians and Muslims speaking about the changing environment both in terms of growing demands for human rights as well as the emergence of powerful Islamist forces.
Participants will visit the prestigious Al Azhar and hear a lecture by one of its scholars. The Most Rev. Dr. Mouneer H. Anis of the Episcopal/Anglican Diocese of Egypt with North Africa and the Horn of Africa will address the Institute as will Rev. Dr. Emad A. Mikhail, Principal of AST. Part of the seminar will be devoted to more effective communication of Christian truths.
Participants are invited to attend AST's graduation ceremony in Cairo on June 30th. The keynote speaker will be The Most Rev. Dr. John Chew, Anglican Province of South East Asia.
