Very Revd Frank Nelson appointed as Dean of St Peter's Cathedral

Anglican Archbishop Jeffery Driver is pleased to announce the appointment of The Very Rev’d Frank Nelson as Dean of Adelaide’s iconic St Peter’s Cathedral.

Born in South Africa, Frank was ordained a priest in 1979 and has always had a passion for cathedrals and the unique opportunities they offer.

Frank Nelson is currently the Dean of the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul in New Zealand.

“Already the Dean of a significant cathedral Frank Nelson will bring broad experience to his ministry in Adelaide,” Archbishop Driver said.

“I am looking forward to being able to welcome Frank and his wife Christine to Adelaide later in the year.”

Frank Nelson has worked as a priest in South Africa, Hong Kong and New Zealand and is inspired by good liturgy and music, coupled with a rigorous searching for ways to make faith relevant today while still maintaining links with the past.

“Cathedrals reach out to a wide variety of people in many different ways and I have a strong sense that St Peter’s is where God is calling me to exercise the next phase of my priestly ministry,” Frank said.

“For a good number of years the basic concepts of Benedictine Spirituality, especially the three-fold vows of obedience, stability and continual conversion, have influenced and informed my ministry. As always I will need to listen carefully to God and to the people of Adelaide – both in church and city – as together we work out the next stage of mission and ministry in the Cathedral.”

“I am grateful for the confidence of Archbishop Jeffrey in his issuing of the invitation to me, and look forward to working closely with him and other colleagues in the Cathedral and the Diocese of Adelaide.”
