Bishop to front summit on ageing

Christchurch's Bishop Victoria Matthews is a keynote speaker and workshop leader at a conference on services to older people in Wellington from Thursday, 29 March.

Her speech will offer reflections on the challenges and opportunities that occur when leaders of churches and aged care organisations are faced with massive damage and disruption of the kind experienced throughout the Canterbury earthquakes.

She will then lead a workshop on what has been learnt in the aftermath of the earthquakes.
The event is being attended by more than 120 people with expertise in the the aged care, health and community sectors and who are directly involved in home and community support, aged residential care, housing for older people and wider health issues.

A one-page summary of the visiting international speakers, keynote speakers and workshop leaders is attached.
The conference is being organised by the New Zealand Council of Christian Social Services.

One of the core programmes run by NZCCSS – a small social justice research, advocacy and policy team located in Wellington – is “Valuing Older People”.

NZCCSS provides a hub for information and resources that weave together the following strands: Social services and Older People; Care and Support in the Community; Poverty and Older People; Housing; Workforce; Dementia and Alzheimers; Spirituality and Ageing; and Research on Ageing.
