Anglican Church primate Eliud Wabukala and self-proclaimed seer David Owuor have urged President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga to convene a national repentance rally. The rally, they said, will kick start true reconciliation and healing process.
Prophet Owuor who was a key speaker at an inter-community consultative forum on peace and justice in Nairobi said the country was ailing and needed national repentance and reconciliation to guarantee lasting peace.
He said the rally will give both offenders and the offended during the post-election violence a platform for forgiveness. "Time has come for this country to call for a national repentance between political leaders and the tribes. Unless this is done I see 2012 will be more mayhem," Owuor said.
He urged politicians to stop bickering and refocus their efforts to repentance, reconciliation and healing process. ACK's Archbishop Wabukala who spoke to the Star separately said: "If I see what is happening in the political landscape today, it doesn't bespeak that we are headed to achieving peace but a country headed to war," he said.
Wabukala said politicians should have the implementation of the constitution as a priority and avoid early campaigns. He said the capaigns were creating unnecessary tensions in the country and interfering with the implementation process. "We advise politicians to stop the early campaigns and hauling of abuse. As leaders they have a responsibility to the people of Kenya to implement the constitution, foster reconciliation and healing for a stable peaceful Kenya," he said.
