New Bishop elected for the Diocese of Harare

The Church of the Province of Central Africa (the Anglican Church in Botswana, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe) announces that the Elective Assembly, composed of six clergy and six lay persons from the vacant diocese chosen at their last synod, three clergy and three lay persons from the Province and three bishops in addition to the Dean of the Province: twenty-two (22) persons in all, elected the Reverend Canon Dr Chad Nicholas Gandiya as the new bishop for the Diocese of Harare on Saturday 2nd May, 2009 at the Arundel School Chapel, Harare, Zimbabwe.

Canon Gandiya is presently the Regional Desk Officer at the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel (USPG), based in London. In his role he has the responsibility in mutually representing the society and the churches in Africa and the Indian Ocean to each other.

Previously, he worked in the Diocese of Harare as a Parish Priest and later as Principal and Lecturer at Bishop Gaul Theological College in Harare, Zimbabwe. He is married to Faith and they have three children.
