Anglicare is turning 25

Anglicare is celebrating its 25th birthday on the evening of September 24, 2008 with a celebration for members, employees and clients.

During the celebration we will be launching a brief history of Anglicare written by noted Tasmanian historian Dr James Boyce.

“Anglican Family Care Services opened its doors in 1983, providing a financial counselling service in Hobart for people struggling with debt and a low income. The service was the first of its kind in Tasmania,” said Anglicare CEO, Dr. Chris Jones.

“Over the next four years it was extended to Launceston, Devonport and Burnie. In 1988, Anglican Family Care Services changed its name to Anglicare.

“Since then has Anglicare has helped thousands of Tasmanians in need and has grown to offer over 50 different services all developed to offer specific support.

“My hope is that one day Tasmania we will live in a healthy and just society and our services won’t be needed,” said Dr. Jones.

“For now, Anglicare would like to celebrate this milestone and I would like to extend to you an invitation to join us.”

The Board of Anglicare Tasmania warmly invites you to join us at our 25th Birthday.

The party will be held at the Cloisters, St David’s Cathedral, Macquarie Street entrance.
7.30 pm on Wednesday 24 September 2008.
