Archbishop of Wales makes pitch for faith in West Wales mission

Parishioners will have the chance to quiz the Archbishop of Wales about the place of faith in Welsh society at a high profile event next month.

The Most Revd Dr. Barry Morgan will be taking part in a Question Time-style session at an inter-denominational mission festival organised by local churches. The aim of the event is to focus on what the Christian faith offers to those outside the church and what role local churches can play in their communities.

Organised by the Emlyn Deanery, the event will take place in a marquee in Llandysul Park on July 1 between 10am and noon. It will be open to anyone interested. Questions for the Archbishop will be submitted before hand.

Archbishop Barry Morgan, said:

‘This will be a marvellous opportunity for people to meet informally and talk about how we can work together to make the Christian faith real to all in the community. It will also be a good chance for us to re-examine the role local churches play in those communities, especially in areas where traditional ways of life are being challenged. The question-time session will no doubt highlight for me issues people are most concerned about and I am looking forward to hearing what they have to say - even if I may not have all the answers!’

The Area Dean of Emlyn, the Revd Eric Roberts said:

‘We are so much looking forward to welcoming the Archbishop. We know that the church in rural areas faces great challenges, but in Emlyn Deanery we look to the future with hope and enthusiasm. This event is part of the Venturing in Mission direction of the Diocese of St. Davids.’

Notes for editors:

Emlyn Deanery has four full time clergy, Eric Roberts (Llandysul), Dewi Roberts (Newcastle Emlyn), Bonnie Timothy (Pencader and Llanfihangel ar Arth), John Gillibrand (Llangeler and Penboyr). There are eighteen churches in the Deanery.

Details of how to submit a question to the Archbishop will be announced nearer to the event.
