Update on the Famine and Floods Crisis
It is estimated that 800,000 people need food assistance between now and July.
Eighty percent of food production has been damaged by the rains and floods. Thousands of people are left homeless or displaced.
In one small Methodist Church in rural Bujumbura 70 families were seeking shelter. Malaria, cholera and diarrhoea are an increasing problem.
Provincial Development Officer
Born in 1964, Leonidas Niyongabo is married to Denise and has four children. He studied agriculture at university.
He comes to the Province with much experience, having worked as a teacher in a technical school for 4 years and then with the NGO, Concern for 8 years where he was programme manager for the livelihood security programme.

-Congratulations to Archbishop Samuel Ndayisenga and his wife, Joy, who celebrated 50 years of marriage last December
-Bishop Sixbert of Buye diocese, and Bishop Eraste of Muyinga diocese are in the UK attending a training course in Canterbury and visiting parishes.
-The Province expresses sympathy to Perpetue Kankindi and her family on the death of her husband, Hon. Charles Karikurubu at the beginning of January.
-The Province was represented at the 7th World Social Forum in Nairobi on the theme of "Another World is Possible."
-Congratulations to Rev Vincent Ndayimbona as he becomes full time Director of the Provincial Institute of Theology and to Rev Seth Ndayirukiye who has been appointed as diocesan secretary for Matana diocese.
-Members of many denominations attended a service during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Bujumbura and were encouraged to fellowship and work together as members of the Body of Christ.

-Claudette Kigeme and Mathilde Nkwirikiye attending the 51st session of the UNCSW in New York on the theme 'the elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against the girl child.'
-The Province represented at the TEAM International Conference on Prophetic Witness, Social Development and HIV and AIDS to be held in Boksburg, South Africa.
