Some 30 members of the Compass Rose Society made a study visit to Salisbury Cathedral this past weekend.
Led by Bishop Philip Poole, Compass Rose Society CRS president that group heard lectures from the Bishop, the Rt Revd David Stancliffe and the Dean, the Very Revd June Osbourne. Canon Mark Bonney and Bishop Stephen Conway also addressed the group. Bishop Poole preached at the Sunday liturgy with the Revd Canon Kenneth Kearon, Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, assisting.
The study group explored the Sarum Rite and its unique contributions to Anglican liturgy, and heard of plans for the 750th Anniversary celebrations in 2008. For many CRS members it was the first chance to hear an English Cathedral choir that included girls voices.
The CRS is a fund and awareness raising group that assists the Anglican Communion Instruments of Communion in their tasks. New members are always welcome.
