ABC opens 'shop on-line' bookstore

January 24, 2006 - The new Anglican Book Centre (ABC) 'shop on-line' web site will soon feature a weekly 'New and Noteworthy' page with books from ABC Publishing and other religious publishers, plus recent reviews. The site will also feature books recommended by Church House staff working in mission, ministry, liturgy, and other departments. The rapidly expanding site lists tens of thousands books, parish resources, vestments, and church furnishings.

To better accommodate walk-in shoppers, the store will be open Saturdays during Lent and longer on weekdays. Store hours are Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. between 25 February and 8 April. The telephone order desk will still be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, with voice-mail ordering during other times, in addition to 24-hour on-line shopping through the web site.

ABC is located in the new office and condominium building that now houses the national offices of the Anglican Church at 80 Hayden Street, just south of the intersection of Bloor and Church streets in downtown Toronto. The new building has attractive store space as well as underground warehouse facilities. Nearby there is some free parking, plus pay parking, for walk-in shoppers.

With the recent resignation of two ABC managers, a new management structure has been put in place. An ABC Operations Team, including 10 members of staff along with a retail consultant, meets regularly to manage day-to-day affairs, streamline process, target sales opportunities, conduct problem solving, and create a vision for sustainable future growth.
