A message from the Bishop in Jerusalem, the Rt Revd Riah Hanna Abu El-Assal
:
Dear Friends,
Salaam and grace in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and blessed greetings to you from Jerusalem.
It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to inform you that Archdeacon Salem Dawani passed away over the weekend, at the age of 64.
Archdeacon Salem was ordained as a Deacon in 1966, and served the Diocese of Jerusalem for close to 38 years. He came from Nablus, in the northern West Bank, but lived all his life as a refugee in Jordan. He served the congregations in Salt, Jordan and most recently in Amman. He was well known to be a very committed and faithful priest, and was especially respected for his pastoral care. He was rector of The Redeemer Church in Amman, which has a congregation of 1700. At a time such as this, people with the experience and unique skills of Archdeacon Salem are badly needed. His passing creates a vacuum in our ministry that will be difficult to fill. Certainly he will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
His wife and son survive him. Please keep the Dawani family in your prayers during this most difficult time.
Know that this comes with my prayers and best wishes,
In Christ,
+ The Rt Revd Riah Abu El-Assal
