Dallas diocese funds Uganda clinic

MUKONO, Uganda - Work is almost complete on a maternity and childcare hospital built to serve the Batwa population by the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas.

The $20,000 facility is being built using funds approved by the diocese's outreach committee. It is expected to be completed in August, when several parishioners will visit southwest Uganda as part of ongoing mission efforts by the diocese in that central African nation.

"The care the Batwa will receive in this hospital will greatly reduce mortality rates, especially of the women ands their babies," Diane Stanton said. "Interns and physicians from throughout the United States often come to help Dr. Scott Kellerman, who operates the clinic along with his wife Carol.
