First female bishop retires

The first woman diocesan bishop in the Anglican Communion has announced her retirement. After 14 years as the Bishop of Dunedin in New Zealand, the Rt Revd Dr Penny Jamieson will retire at the end of June. Since her election in 1989 six dioceses in the United States and Canada have also consecrated female bishops. There are now 11 women bishops in The Anglican Communion.
