Anglicans highlight work of orphanage

An Anglican Church-run orphanage in Bolgatanga, Ghana, held a celebration on 15 December to highlight its work and to educate communities on the needs of orphans.

The "Mother and Baby Home", which has looked after 743 orphans since it was set up in 1986, held the celebration of its work under the theme of "The Orphan Child and the Community". The project manager, Mrs Rebecca Ayanmore, said that there were a large numbers of misunderstandings about orphans in Ghana, and that local superstitions often linked orphans to witchcraft and other prejudices. She said that the aims of the orphanage, in addition to welfare work, was the advocacy of orphans rights and issue awareness.

The orphanage currently has 19 children in its care.
